DURING PLAY
- Play always starts at Tee 1, unless directed to by staff.
- Please refrain from moving, talking or standing close to or directly behind the ball or hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
- Please show courtesy and respect to other players so they can enjoy their golf without unwanted distractions. If you are playing music, please do so at a low volume or with earphones. Do not allow your language or actions to cause offense to others.
- Please play “Ready Golf” unless the competition rules state otherwise.
- In the interests of speed of play all players should keep up with the group in front. A round should be completed in 4 hours or less.
- Please wait until the group in front of you has completely moved out of range.
- Players should walk briskly between shots and play without delay.
- Players searching for a ball should allow the group behind to play through and should not continue their play until those players have moved out of range.
- Players losing one or more fairways should allow the group behind to play through.
- Players should replace all divots on the fairway, repair all ball marks or other damage to the putting green.
- Players should always protect the green surface. Please do not drop the flag-stick, clubs or any object on the green surface. Protect the hole by standing a safe distance away from the hole. The flag-stick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green.
- All trundlers and carts must be kept clear of greens, tees and wet patches, and should be kept to the outer side of bunkers.
- Only a maximum of two balls can be used on the course at one time when practicing.
- Please rake bunkers to a smooth surface after playing a stroke from them and leave the rakes INSIDE the bunkers.
- In the interests of health and safety please ensure the safety of other players and staff of the Club/ volunteers working on the Course. Members must ensure that the playing areas to which they are hitting are clear and will not endanger other persons, particularly with regard to fairways and greens which are not completely visible. For your own safety we ask that you exercise due care at all times. Please be reminded that under wet conditions the course may become slippery and appropriate precautions should be observed – especially when operating a cart.
- In competitions and haggles follow the prescribed rules of play, which include putting out all holes. That is unless it is a match-play competition, or if it is a stableford competition where your will have zero stableford points. Otherwise the score must be recorded as DNF (“ did not finish”).
LIQUOR LICENSE POLICY
To comply with the sale and supply of liquor 2012 in accordance with our liquor license no alcohol is to be brought onto the premises of Wanganui Golf Club. Only alcohol purchased through the club is able to be consumed on the course and in the clubhouse. Any person seen to be violating this will be asked to dispose of their alcohol and may be asked to leave.
PERSONAL PROPERTY AND INSURANCE
The Club shall not be liable for loss of any property belonging to a member or a visitor from the Club’s premises, cart shed or from motor vehicles in the car park. We recommend that you keep your vehicle locked at all times. Loss or damage to vehicles whilst parked in the car park is the owner’s responsibility. Members should report any incident involving damage or likely damage caused by a ball being hit into private property. This report should be made to the Club Manager immediately your round is completed.
The Club shall not be liable for any damage or loss of carts – individual insurance must be held for storage or use of carts on the property.
CAR PARKING
All named/reserved parking spaces are to be always kept clear.
CLUB DRESS CODE
A respectable standard of dress is expected at all times on the course and in the clubhouse. Club Officials and staff have full jurisdiction to uphold dress standards on the course and in the clubhouse, at their discretion, may ask any person on the course to dress appropriately in keeping with the following standards:
- Clothing with unsightly or obscene slogans, gang patches or graphics, not permitted
- Dress shoes with hard soles/heels, not permitted
- No golf shoes or hats are to be worn upstairs in the Clubhouse
BAR AND CLUBHOUSE HOURS
The Bar hours are displayed on the website and the main entrance to the Clubhouse. These hours may be varied at the discretion of the Manager and in accordance with the Club's license. The Bar Manager and staff have the right to refuse service to any person if, in their opinion, that person's behaviour is not acceptable. The Bar Manager is responsible to ensure that Bar opening and closing hours are observed. Please return empty glasses, bottles, jugs, cutlery and plates to the Bar.
MOTORISED TRANSPORT
The Committee at all times reserves the right to grant or revoke permission to use a motorcycle, golf cart or other forms of motorised transport on the Wanganui Golf Club course. At all times users must comply with the “Terms and Conditions” set down in conjunction with the policy. Security and insurance is entirely at the owner’s risk and cost.
GREENS STAFF
Greens staff have the right of way at all times. Please be aware that they may not be able to hear you when operating machinery due to the wearing of ear protection and may not see you due to being focused on the task at hand.
Players must not hit the ball onto areas where greens staff are working. Players must make eye contact / visual recognition, and the greens staff signal the player through prior to hitting an approach shot. Patience on the part of players allows the greens staff to do their job.
All directives/signs put out on course by the greens keeping staff must be adhered to at all times.
SCORECARDS
All players must print a scorecard or generate a digital scorecard prior to play.
This is a health and safety regulation that the golf club has been required to put in place and is a requirement of all golfers entering the facility to register with the Shop and print a card before teeing off.
HANDICAPS
The World Handicap System (WHS) has been operating in New Zealand since May 2020. Members and visitors should acquaint themselves with their current course handicap before commencing play. This can be found on the Golf NZ App on their phone and after logging in, on the Golf NZ Website and Wanganui Golf Club Website. It will also appear on their printed scorecard.
Handicaps are adjusted by the system overnight so it’s important that scorecards are returned promptly for every stipulated round played.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY PLAYER TO ENSURE THAT THEIR SCORECARD IS COMPLETED/ENTERED CORRECTLY AND ATTESTED.
If The Shop is closed the card must be placed in the afterhours kiosk.
All match play cards must be handed in for handicapping as stipulated by the NZGA with the exception of the club champs and pennants.
RULES OF PLAY
The rules of play shall for all games of golf be those of the Royal and ancient Golf
This necessitates the player ensures the return of ALL cards regardless of where the round is played and that they will post every acceptable round for peer review. Cards are generated automatically at the Shop after a player has entered his/her member ID number. Visitors to the Club can only access a scorecard from the Shop or the after hours kiosk.
The club actively monitors handicaps to ensure members handicaps are a fair and accurate representation of their golfing ability. The attached policy provides frame work and actions that may be taken during the review process of a members handicap. Policy and Procedure for handicap review
TEE TIME REGISTRATION
Players are required to register for their tee time a minimum of 15 minutes prior. Any player who fails to do so or do not inform the Shop they are running late may have their tee booking cancelled.
PRACTISING ON THE COURSE
Practising on the course is prohibited, a practise round may be played with no more than two balls.
COMPLAINTS AND SUGGESTIONS
These must be put in writing and forwarded to the Club Manager. They will be referred to the appropriate person or committee for action.
No Member shall reprimand any employee or member of the Club.
TRESPASSERS ON CLUB PROPERTY
Trespassers are prohibited and enter the Club’s property at their own risk. Club members are requested to warn off the course any unauthorised persons and notify staff as soon as possible.
SUSPENSION OR ABANDONMENT OF PLAY
The Club has a siren to signal to players regarding the above. One prolonged blast on the siren will indicate that play is to be suspended and two prolonged blasts will indicate that play is to resume. Three short blasts indicate postponement of play and players should return to the Clubhouse where the duration of the delay will be announced. Two prolonged blasts will indicate the resumption of play. In the event of abandonment three prolonged blasts will be sounded and play will not resume again that day. Players must ascertain restart requirements before leaving the course that day. At any stoppage a player who wishes to lift their ball, rather than complete play of the hole, should first mark its position by triangulation and agree the procedure with their opponent or marker.
HOLE IN ONE
Purpose: To celebrate a player achieving a hole in one during a round of golf.
Wanganui Golf Club Members
For a club member who hits a hole in one during a stipulated round, the following applies.
- For a hole in one to count, it must be scored during a stipulated round at Wanganui Golf Club. The stipulated round in 9-hole golf competitions is 9 holes. In all other circumstances it is 18 holes. The round must be played with a marker, who must complete and sign the scorecard along with the player.
- The office or a Club official must be notified of the event as soon as practical after the completion of the round
CONDITIONS OF COMPETITIONS
The rules of the Club provide that no member shall be eligible to participate in any competition if any part of their subscription remains overdue (except those who have arranged weekly or monthly payment). The eligibility of a member to participate in any event is determined by their membership category as at the first day of the competition.
Players are responsible for playing off their correct Handicap Index and Course Handicap. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the competition.
All competition cards are to be entered into the DOTGOLF system or as otherwise directed by the event organizer, immediately on completion of a round. Players are responsible for recording the gross score on each hole. All cards must be signed by the player and marker. Incorrect, illegible or incomplete scorecards will be disqualified.
MOBILE PHONES
We understand in today’s modern age it is important to stay connected, therefore the use of mobile phones on the course and in the clubhouse is permitted. Please be courteous when doing so, if your use of a mobile phone is interfering with another person’s experience then you will be asked to refrain from using it.
The use of mobile phones in club competitions is prohibited as this is against the rules of golf. In any club competition the penalty for using your phone is loss of hole in match play or a two-stroke penalty in stroke play.
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES
Distance measuring devices that are used for the sole purpose of measuring distance only are allowed in club and competition play.
PACE OF PLAY
The Club has adopted the Pace of Play rules to apply to all competitions.
The per-shot time limits for all players are as follows:
- For the first player to play from the tee, fairway or on the green – 45 seconds.
- For subsequent players in the group – 30 seconds.
Pace of play board is displayed at the 9th hole of the 18 hole course, you are expected to maintain this pace.
CART USE
Keep speeds low.
Only two passengers to ride in a cart, no standing on the back or on the sides of carts.
Always use cart paths if available.
Stay 5 metres away from all greens and tees and do not drive between greens and bunkers.
Follow all direction signs put out by the greens keeping staff.
Take extra care if the ground is damp or wet.
