The longest hole on Belmont bears a name that doesn’t surprise. Again its history is obscure but if the early years of the Wanganui Golf Club run to form, then here is another hole that tips its hat to conflicts of the 19th century. Long Tom was a type of cannon used in both the US Civil War and the second Boer War. Earlier, the women’s tee was further along the right-hand side of the hillside.
